I’ve been blessed to have some of the best teachers in the Bay Area—amazing vocal coaches Sandy Cressman, Laurie Antonioli, and Raz Kennedy, piano genius Peter Horvath, and the fantastic Doug Goodkin, James Harding, and Sofia Lopez-Ibor, who fostered my love of music when I was in elementary and middle school—not to mention the amazing experiences I had during the SFJAZZ All-Stars, Michael Zilber’s Advanced High School Jazz Workshop at the California Jazz Conservatory, and the nine years I spent in the San Francisco Boys Chorus, performing everywhere from the San Francisco Opera to Obama’s 2009 Inauguration.

To me, teaching is a way to give back all those gifts. I believe true music must be a source of joy, so rather than learning music from the “outside-in,” as a codified set of instructions to follow, I stress an “inside-out” approach to music that will have students improvising, composing, and using music as a tool for self-expression and connection with others and the world. I teach voice, piano, guitar, and composition and will be happy to drive to the students' home if they live in San Francisco.

I accept students of all ages and ability levels in the Bay Area. Please fill out the form below to set up a lesson or ask a question. Thanks!

Josh was very open minded about what I wanted to do and he also thought about what was best for me. And since I’m not the best guitar player in the world he was very patient. I have grown a long ways since at first I couldn’t play any chords and now I can play songs! He is super nice and makes lessons fun! He also goes in depth on music background and doesn’t just give you chords to play.
